  • What is Maxalt and how does it work?

Maxalt is a migraine headache treatment containing the active ingredient rizatriptan benzoate, which belongs to the selective serotonin 5-HT receptor agonist or triptan class of medication. Rizatriptan is specifically designed to treat the headache phase of migraines by narrowing the temporarily widened blood vessels surrounding the brain, which is believed to be a cause of migraines.3

    Maxalt Tablets vs. Maxalt Melt

Maxalt is available in two formulations: tablets and melts.

    - Maxalt Tablets: These are conventional tablets that are swallowed with water. They offer effective relief from migraine attacks.

    - Maxalt Melt 10mg Wafers: Maxalt Melt provides fast-acting relief from migraine attacks. Each box contains 3 lyophilisate wafers that are placed on the tongue, where they dissolve quickly without the need for water. This makes them an excellent option for those who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

What is the difference between Maxalt and Rizatriptan?

Maxalt and Rizatriptan are medically equivalent, as both contain the active ingredient rizatriptan benzoate. They work in the same way by contracting the blood vessels in the head to relieve migraine symptoms. The primary difference lies in their formulation, with Maxalt being available in both tablet and melt forms, while Rizatriptan is available as a generic tablets.
