  • What is Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray?

Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray is a medication containing mometasone furoate as its active ingredient. It belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids, which exert anti-inflammatory effects. The spray is administered directly into the nostrils and works locally to reduce swelling and irritation in the nasal passages.

    What is it used for?

This nasal spray is primarily used for the treatment of allergic conditions affecting the nose. It is indicated for:

Hay Fever (Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis): This refers to allergic reactions triggered by exposure to pollen from trees, grasses, weeds, and other environmental allergens. Symptoms include sneezing, itching, and a congested or runny nose.

Perennial Rhinitis: Also known as year-round or perennial allergic rhinitis, this condition involves symptoms similar to hay fever but occurs throughout the year. It may be triggered by allergens such as dust mites, animal dander, and mold spores.

Nasal Polyps: Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray is also prescribed for the treatment of nasal polyps in adults aged 18 and over. Nasal polyps are noncancerous growths that develop on the lining of the nasal passages and sinuses, leading to nasal congestion and difficulty breathing through the nose.

  • How to use the nasal spray

Before using Mometasone Furoate for the first time, you will need to ‘prime’ the bottle by spraying the pump 10 times until a fine mist is produced.

    1. Shake the bottle gently and remove the dust cap.

    2. Gently blow your nose.

    3. Close one nostril and put the nozzle of the spray bottle into your other nostril. Tilt your head forward and keep the bottle upright.

    4. Start to breathe in slowly through your nose and pump the spray once whilst breathing in.

    5. Breathe out through your mouth. Repeat this step to apply a second dose to the same nostril and two doses to the other nostril.

After using the spray, wipe the nozzle and replace the dust cap.
