Wegovy Click Chart: What It Means and Why Counting Clicks Isn't Recommended

If you've been dealing with side effects, worried about treatment costs, or unsure about the prescribed dose, you've probably seen a Wegovy click chart while looking for answers online. These online charts purport to determine medication doses based on the number of Wegovy pen clicks, but this can lead to unnecessary dosing errors.

Here’s what Wegovy click charts are, how the pen works, the dangers of counting clicks, and when to talk to your prescriber about your treatment.

What's a Wegovy Click Chart?

A Wegovy click chart is an unofficial, non-medical reference table that estimates the medication's doses by the number of clicks on an injection pen. These charts are available on the internet, social media, and discussion boards. However, they're not included in Novo Nordisk's authorised dosing instructions.

Novo Nordisk, the company that manufactures Wegovy, recommends against counting the pen clicks to determine a dose. Unofficial Wegovy click charts can lead to dosing errors and potentially serious side effects because pens vary in design and strength (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026b). Don’t use an unofficial click chart to change your prescribed dose without medical supervision.

What Do Online Wegovy Click Charts Claim to Show?

Most charts try to estimate the amount of semaglutide taken based on the number of pen clicks. Some recommend creating "partial doses" from higher-strength pens, while others claim they can help patients last longer on their prescribed dose.

These calculations can't determine the accuracy or the appropriateness of the dose. There's no universal Wegovy click chart, and they're also not reliable due to the different pen strengths and mechanisms.

Why Do People Search for Them?

Most people search for Wegovy click charts online because of side effects, cost concerns, or uncertainty about the right dose. Others also want to understand how the pen works and what the clicks mean.

Don't change your medicine without talking to your prescriber. Before starting Wegovy injection treatment, review the approved product information and ask questions if you're unsure.

How Do Wegovy Pen Clicks Work?

The meaning of a click depends on the design of the pen. Some devices make clicking sounds as the dose selector moves, while others click when they inject the dose. Neither mechanism provides reliable data for calculating medication quantities using an unofficial chart.

Understanding the Wegovy FlexTouch Pen

The Wegovy FlexTouch pen is a pre-filled pen available in the UK in multiple doses. The pen has four doses, and each dose is administered once a week. It includes a dose selector and a counter that display the prescribed Wegovy strength.

As the selector moves, it makes clicking sounds. According to the manufacturer's instructions, these sounds vary depending on the pen's design and the direction of movement. They aren't reliable measurements of semaglutide (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026b). You can get the accurate dose information from the approved dose counter, not the number of clicks.

Are All Wegovy Pens the Same?

No. Wegovy pen designs vary by market and formulation. For instance, Wegovy is primarily a single-dose pen in the US. UK FlexTouch pens contain four doses, while single-dose pens contain one complete, preset dose. The UK's approved 7.2 mg single-dose pen also uses an automatic injection mechanism. A yellow bar indicates injection progress, while clicks signal stages of the injection process (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026a).

You can't use these features to choose a different dose or calculate partial doses. Devices vary, so always check the Patient Information Leaflet provided with your pen.

Are Wegovy and Ozempic Pens Interchangeable?

While Wegovy and Ozempic have the same active ingredient (semaglutide), they're licensed for different uses in the UK. Wegovy is authorised for weight management and some other approved indications, while Ozempic is licensed only for type 2 diabetes.

Ozempic is administered with a dial-a-dose pen, but its manufacturer cautions against counting clicks to determine the dose (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2025). Wegovy FlexTouch is also a dial-a-dose pen with a dose selector and dose counter, but it offers only the prescribed dose. Although both medicines contain semaglutide, don't interchange them or use an Ozempic pen click chart with Wegovy pens.

Is It Safe to Use a Wegovy Click Chart?

Using an unofficial click chart to calculate your Wegovy dosage isn't safe. Although some charts provide detailed calculations, manufacturers or regulators haven't validated their accuracy.

What Does Novo Nordisk Recommend?

The instructions for patients on Novo Nordisk's Useful Information page explicitly caution against using the number of clicks to determine Wegovy doses. They recommend turning the dose selector until the counter displays the prescribed dose for FlexTouch pens. Counting clicks isn't a substitute for these features (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026b).

If you have any questions about the device, ask your prescribing pharmacist or health care professional to explain the manufacturer's instructions.

Why Are Unofficial Charts Unreliable?

There are a number of reasons why click charts aren't a good way to calculate medication doses online:

  • Different Pen Strengths: Wegovy pens come in different semaglutide strengths.
  • Different Mechanisms: FlexTouch and single-dose pens operate differently.
  • Unverified Calculations: Online charts use a click-to-dose ratio that’s not approved by the manufacturer.
  • Outdated Information: Some charts are for older devices or products from other countries.

For these reasons, even the most precise mathematical chart can give wrong results.

Can Counting Clicks Cause Dosing Errors?

Yes. Using an unofficial calculation may result in a dose more or less than prescribed. If you take more than the recommended Wegovy dose, you run the risk of experiencing side effects. And if you take too little, the treatment may not be as effective.

Neither method accurately predicts how well you'll respond to treatment. Don’t use a Wegovy click chart to calculate split doses, modify the amount of medication, or make half doses. You should talk to your prescriber if you feel you need to change your dose.

What Are the Risks of Incorrect Wegovy Dosing?

Wegovy works by stimulating glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors, which helps control appetite. It can reduce hunger and food intake while increasing feelings of fullness. The wrong dosage can affect the effectiveness of treatment and tolerance.

Taking More Medication than Prescribed

Taking too much Wegovy can lead to more gastrointestinal side effects such as:

  • Severe nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dehydration

If vomiting or diarrhoea occurs frequently, you can lose a significant amount of fluid, especially if you have kidney problems. Contact your doctor immediately if you've taken more Wegovy than prescribed, even if you don't have severe symptoms (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026b). For more information, check out our guide on Wegovy side effects.

Taking Less Medication than Prescribed

Taking a lower dose without medical supervision can affect your treatment results. Wegovy is evaluated in clinical trials with a specific treatment plan. Not taking the required dose can change how your body responds.

It can also make it difficult for treatment reviews since your prescriber might not be able to tell if your medication isn't working or you're not taking it correctly.

Using Leftover Medication

After using the four labelled doses in a Wegovy FlexTouch pen, you may still notice there's liquid left in the pen. This doesn't indicate the pen contains an additional complete dose.

Novo Nordisk states that the remaining solution isn't enough to make up another authorised dose. Therefore, don't try to remove it or split it into smaller amounts.

When Should You Seek Medical Help?

If you've taken an incorrect dose, please contact your prescriber. Seek urgent medical attention if you develop severe, persistent abdominal pain, or if it spreads to your back. This can be a sign of acute pancreatitis.

Repeated vomiting that prevents you from keeping fluids down also requires prompt medical assessment. Call 999 if you experience breathing difficulties or swelling of your face, tongue, or throat, which may indicate a serious allergic reaction. Don't try to correct a possible dosing error by taking extra medication or changing your next scheduled dose on your own.

When to Review Your Wegovy Dose

Side effects, treatment response, and changes in your health may warrant a review of your Wegovy dose. However, a qualified prescriber should assess any proposed dose changes rather than relying on a click chart.

Your Wegovy dose may need review if you experience side effects, notice your health improving or worsening, or don't notice any improvement. Nonetheless, never use a Wegovy click chart to decide on dosage changes without consulting a qualified prescriber.

Talk to Your Prescriber About Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhoea are some of the common side effects people experience during Wegovy treatment, especially during dose escalation. If symptoms don't go away or start to disrupt your daily life, see your healthcare provider.

Your prescriber can evaluate your symptoms and decide to withhold dose increases, lower the dose, or reconsider your treatment. The prescribing information suggests delaying or reducing the dose to the previous dose if you experience severe gastrointestinal symptoms (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026b).

When Do You Need the Next Dose Increase?

Wegovy treatment generally involves gradual dose escalation to improve tolerability. The initial dose starts at 0.25 mg weekly for four weeks. After that, approved injection strengths include 0.5mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg, with the appropriate dose depending on your treatment stage and clinical circumstances.

If you're experiencing issues with your current dose, discuss any symptoms with the prescriber before the next scheduled dose increase. Your prescriber can check how you're doing and determine if the current treatment is appropriate. Don't use click chart calculations to create an unprescribed intermediate dose.

What Happens If Your Weight Loss Slows Down or Plateaus?

Weight loss doesn't always follow a standard pattern. You may lose weight quickly at first, then slow down or even plateau temporarily. Your clinician can review weight changes over a few weeks, diet and activity, side effects, and relevant health issues.

Tracking the percentage of your starting body weight lost can help you assess longer-term progress. Don't rely on daily fluctuations alone to determine treatment decisions.

What's the Highest Approved Wegovy Dose in the UK?

The highest authorised Wegovy dose in the UK for eligible adults is 7.2 mg. However, the highest dose isn't necessarily the optimal dose for every patient.

Understanding the Usual Maintenance Dose

The recommended maintenance dose for adults taking Wegovy injections is 2.4 mg once a week. One pen comes with four needles for four doses. The maintenance dose supports ongoing treatment after the initial dose-escalation stage.

Some individuals may need a more complex strategy because of tolerability, disease response, or medical issues. Always remember that the right Wegovy dose is determined by clinical evaluation, not just the rate of weight loss.

What Changed with Wegovy 7.2 mg in 2026?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved a weekly 7.2 mg dose of Wegovy for adults with obesity and a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or above on 6 January 2026 (MHRA, 2026b).

On 14 April 2026, the MHRA separately approved a dedicated single-dose 7.2 mg injection pen (MHRA, 2026c). This higher strength is for selected patients who've received appropriate treatment and clinical assessment. It isn't authorised for every Wegovy indication. Importantly, this approval doesn't support using click charts to obtain 7.2 mg or other unprescribed doses from different pens.

Does a Higher Dose Always Mean Better Results?

Clinical studies have shown greater average weight loss at higher doses; however, patients vary and may or may not respond to the higher dose. The STEP UP trial included 1,407 adults with obesity without diabetes and ran for 72 weeks.

Wharton et al. (2025) reported average body-weight reductions of:

  • 18.7% with semaglutide 7.2 mg
  • 15.6% with semaglutide 2.4 mg
  • 3.9% with placebo

These results are based on trials and don't guarantee individual results. Your prescriber must balance potential weight-loss benefits against safety, tolerability, and your medical history.

Higher doses may also increase the risk of certain side effects. In the STEP UP trial, 22.9% of patients receiving 7.2 mg reported altered skin sensations (dysaesthesia), including tingling, burning, or skin sensitivity. The 7.2 mg group also had more gastrointestinal adverse events than the 2.4 mg group.

Are There Safer Alternatives to Using a Click Chart?

The safer option will depend on your reasons for considering changing medication. If you're struggling with the cost of treatment or side effects, talk to a qualified prescriber. Don't use unauthorised dosing methods.

Address Concerns About the Cost of Wegovy

Over time, private Wegovy treatment can be costly. However, using partial doses to prolong the life of a pen introduces unnecessary dosing risks. Check the costs of ongoing treatment, consultation fees, delivery fees, and pharmacy support. Read our comprehensive guide on Wegovy cost per month in the UK, which explains the main factors that influence the cost.

Ask About Other Licensed Weight Management Options

If Wegovy injections aren’t suitable for you, your prescriber may want to try another licensed treatment. In June 2026, the MHRA approved an oral formulation of semaglutide for the treatment of weight management in eligible adults in the UK (MHRA, 2026a). Unlike the weekly injections, the Wegovy pill is taken daily. The two formulations have different prescribing requirements and aren't directly interchangeable.

Read our Wegovy pill vs injection comparison to understand the main differences and how the Wegovy pill works. Access depends on availability, eligibility, and prescription approval. You can also read about Wegovy pill costs in the UK. Tablets aren't necessarily cheaper, so compare the actual cost of treatment.

Getting Reliable Wegovy Advice in the UK

You can use prescription weight loss drugs responsibly with the right clinical guidance. This is why it's important to know when to seek professional advice.

Choose a Regulated Pharmacy and Professional Support

Before ordering Wegovy online, confirm if the pharmacy is appropriately registered. In Great Britain, you can use the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) register to verify the pharmacy’s registration.

Only a qualified prescriber can prescribe Wegovy, and they must review your medical history, medications, and suitability for treatment before you take it. Additionally, you should be given the manufacturer's patient information leaflet relating to your pen. Read our detailed guide on how to get Wegovy in the UK for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to Keep Wegovy Pens in the Fridge?

Yes. Store unopened Wegovy pens in a fridge at 2°C to 8°C. After the first use, you can store Wegovy FlexTouch pens at temperatures below 30°C for up to 6 weeks. The 7.2 mg single-dose pen can remain unrefrigerated for up to 28 days at no more than 30°C. Don't freeze Wegovy, and always follow your specific pen's storage instructions (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026a, 2026b).

Can You Travel Abroad With a Wegovy Pen?

Yes. You can travel with prescribed Wegovy injections, as long as you maintain the recommended storage conditions. Carry the medicine in hand luggage to reduce the risk of freezing, damage, or loss. Bring proof of prescription, and review the airline's guidelines on carrying needles and the country's regulations on prescription medication before departure (Department for Transport, 2024).

What Should I Do If My Wegovy Pen Stops Working?

Don’t force the pen dial or try to repair the device. Talk to your pharmacist or prescriber, particularly if you haven’t used the complete dose. Treatment may be compromised by a faulty pen that can lead to incorrect dosing. Don’t take a double dose without medical advice, as this poses unnecessary dosing risks (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026 b).

Can You Use Wegovy If the Liquid Looks Cloudy?

Wegovy injection solution should be clear and colourless. Don’t use the pen if it is cloudy, contains visible particles, or is discoloured. Check the expiry date and ask your dispensing pharmacy for guidance if you need a replacement. Don’t use a medication that may be inappropriate (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026a, 2026b); always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Can Two People Share the Same Wegovy Pen?

No. Each Wegovy pen is intended for one person only, even if it contains more than one dose. A FlexTouch pen is equipped with four doses for a week, and changing needles doesn’t mean it’s safe to share. People sharing injection equipment may be exposed to a strength of the injection that’s not suitable for them, and others might catch an infection from the person using the device. Always take medications prescribed specifically for you (Novo Nordisk A/S 2026b).

How Should You Dispose of Used Wegovy Pens and Needles?

Put used detachable needles in an approved sharps container, not in household trash. Dispose of empty FlexTouch pens without needles as your pharmacist or local authority recommends. The single-dose pen with a 7.2 mg dose comes with a needle built in; please follow the instructions provided on the container for disposal. Always keep unused and used pens and needles out of the reach of children (Novo Nordisk A/S, 2026a, 2026b).

Conclusion

A Wegovy click chart may seem like an easy way to manage treatment costs or side effects. However, these unofficial charts are not approved by the manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, for measuring semaglutide doses and can lead to inaccurate dosing

Novo Nordisk advises against counting pen clicks to determine your dose. Consult a knowledgeable health care provider if you’re experiencing side effects or considering a dose change. Your prescriber can consider individual factors and adjust treatment if needed. Most importantly, don't use an unofficial Wegovy click chart; seek medical advice if you have any concerns.
